In the year 2011, Wayne Rooney scored one of the greatest goals Old Trafford has ever seen.
The Red Devils faced their bitter rivals Manchester City at home. Luis Nani opened the scoresheet in first-half before David Silva equalized on the 65th minute.
This was followed by Wayne Rooney bicycle kick on the 78th minute, courtesy to Nani’s assist following a cross.
Shortly after Rooney scored, he ran to the corner flag, stretched his arms and looked to the heavens.
The English football commentator – Peter Drury made the goal to look even better with his “poetic commentry”. Drury uttered.
“Nani, Rooney. Oh… wonderful. What a goal, what a time and what a place. What a player, Wayne Rooney, out of this world! 2-1 United.
Drury further commented: “One of the greatest goals in the history of Manchester derby”.
Rooney went on to become the all-time leading goalscorer for both club and country. His goal will be revisited for many years to come.
