Manchester United secured the signature of Mason Mount from Chelsea after both clubs agreed on £55m deal, plus £5m add-ons, as reported by the Athletic.
The English international passed a medical on Monday midday, at Carrington training center. Official announcement was subject to completion of the medical.
The Englishman signed a five-year contract which will run out in 2028. The clause includes an option to extend to a further one year.
The Blues had initially rejected the first bid from United only to accept £60m last Thursday. It was no doubt that Ten Hag was desperate to bolster his squad with the signature of the midfielder.
Speaking to Manchester United media house, Mason said:
“I’m very excited to work under Erik ten Hag. It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up but Man Utd will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career”.
“It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career.”
Mount continued: “Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining.”
“I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies”, he added.
Ten Hag’s first signing has been handed the iconic jersey number seven which was previously worn by great legends, including Cristiano Ronaldo, being the latest predecessor.
Reports suggests that the former Chelsea no.19 was eager to join the Red Devils. This was no surprise by virtue that Ten Hag’s side will be in the UEFA Champions League for the upcoming campaign.
The veteran playmaker will join the midfield trio of Bruno Fernandes and Carlo Casemiro, as well as the attacking threat of Marcus Rashford, ahead of the pre-season.
Andrè Onana and Rasmus Hojlund
The English giants are also linked with Andre Onana, following the departure of the long time serving, David de Gea. The contract of the Spaniard expired during the course of the weekend, leaving little or no certainty to the goalkeeper department.
According to the Athletic, United made a verbal proposal of £34m, plus £5m add-ons for Inter Milan’s shot-stopper which was rejected by the Italian giants. Talks between Inter and United are still on-going.
Rasmus Hojlund is one of the names on Ten Hag’s hotlist. The Athletic reported that United has not formally submitted a bid for Hojlund.
