Cristiano Ronaldo has taken the center stage in the transfer window. The Portuguese international has expressed his desire to leave Manchester United.
The 37-year-old did not partake in the pre-season fixtures amid speculations of his wishes to leave Old Trafford. He only returned in the last match of pre-season against Rayo Valecano.
Sources have stated that the veteran striker wants UEFA Champions League football, something which the Red Devils cannot offer after the club failed to secure top four in the Premier League.
The player has told Manchester United hierarchy to consider reasonable offers. On the other hand, Erik ten Hag maintained that Ronaldo is “not for sale”. The Dutchman further reiterated that Ronaldo will play a vital role in the 2023/23 campaign.
It is more likely that the Portuguese will part ways with Manchester United. The club lost their two opening fixtures against Brighton and Brentford at Old Trafford and Gtech Community Stadium respectively.
The club has shown little or no ambition in the transfer window despite the lack of depth in the squad. Ronaldo is increasingly becoming frustrated because he wants to compete for major honors.
Cristiano’s agent – Jorge Mendes is still pushing in a bit to move the player out of Old Trafford. Manchester United is now willing to let the player depart.
The parties hope to secure a move out of Old Trafford in the last week of the window, as happened at Juventus last season.
