The former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson presented David de Gea with an award at Old Trafford before the start of the match against the Magpies as reported by Sky Sports.
David made 500 appearances for Manchester United since arriving in 2011. He was brought to the club from Altetico Madrid to replace Edwin Van der Sar.
The Spanish international has become central to Manchester United project since arriving at Old Trafford in the year 2011.
He is the only player left at Manchester United who won the Premier League titles with Sir Alex Ferguson in the year 2011 and 2013 respectively.
The Spaniard has won amongst others, the FIFA FIFPRO World XI, Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and PFA Premier League Team of the Year awards.
De Gea is in his final year of his contract with an option to extend to a further year. However, the 31-year-old made his wishes to remain at the club.
According to Daily Mail, the no.1 said: “This is my club and where I feel good. I’m playing well and I feel very well. I have many more years to play. Yes, I would like to stay here more years and make records for games and everything”.
De Gea added that: “I’d like to try to help the young people here as well with my experience and try to win trophies. I feel very confident”.
“I’m really proud and can’t wait to play Newcastle and try to win. Nobody expects to play that many years and that many games. It’s unbelievable and I consider it a privilege.”
The goalkeeper made a solid performance agsinst Newcastle United by securing a clean-sheet although the match ended on a disappointing 0-0 draw.
