Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire will continue to captain the Red Devils despite doubts of his leadership influence in the dressing-room, as reported by Goal.
The English defender came under heavy criticism last season during Manchester United’s worst defensive record in the English top-flight.
Maguire was involved in mistakes leading to goals more than any other player at United.
The former Leicester City based defender made his move to Manchester United in 2019 during the reign of Ole-Gunner Solskjaer.
The English giants agreed for a world record fee for a defender worth around £80 plus ad-ons. Maguire has since made appearances in a red shirt more than any other player bar from David de Gea.
Harry Maguire’s poor season has posed questions on who should wear the armband. Bruno Fernandez, Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea are suitable contenders to lead the team.
Despite uncertainties on the captaincy at Manchester United, Erik ten Hag will keep Maguire as the skipper in the coming season.
The latest arrival Lisandro Martinez leaves the captaincy of Maguire in question. It is no doubt that Martinez adds more competition in center-back, with Raphael Verane, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly all in contention to fight for center-back spot.
Axel Taunzebe had a decent performance in the UEFA Champions League and the boss will no doubt have a hard time to stick with his preferred center-back pair.
It remains to be seen which center-back pair will ten Hag pick. All eyes will be on Sunday when Manchester United goes head-to-head with Brighton.
