Man Utd is in contact with PSV Eindhoven to discuss the transfer of Cody Gakpo. The Eredivise team has reportedly set the market value of Gakpo at £50 million amid interest from Man Utd, as noted by the Mirror.

United Radar previously reported that the Dutchman has been in the wish list of Man Utd all summer. The player is also keen to make a switch to Old Trafford.

The PSV forward did not hide his interest to join the English giants in the coming transfer window. During the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Cody said:

“That was a tough period. I learned from that. I’m going to do it differently. What comes, that comes. Suppose you want to go from RKC (Waalwijk) to PSV, but that club is not coming. Then you can panic.”

“I thought about Manchester United, but when that didn’t happen, I couldn’t remember. And I started to doubt. Leeds United did come. Should I go there? Now I wait everything.”

Gakpo added: “I haven’t heard from Manchester United yet. When they come, I’ll think about it. I also seek the help of God in these decisions”.

“As footballers, we are in the spotlight. People watch us. I feel it a duty to do something about it. I try to convey the lessons I learn from my church as best as possible to others who need it.”

The 23-year-old Netherlands international has so far scored nine goals, with twelve assists in the Eredivise, making him the top goalscorer in the division.

He continued his fine form during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, scoring three times in just five games. His goal tally made him the top goalscorer for his national team.

Reports suggest that Erik ten Hag believes that Gapko will bring hunger and aggression at Man Utd, something which Cristiano Ronaldo lacked at the age of 37.

According to 90min, the former United striker, Ruud Van Nistelrooy is optimistic about the departure of Gakpo. The veteran forward said:

“If I have the choice, I prefer [Gakpo to leave in] the summer, but it can also be now. You just know there comes a time when you can’t say no.”

Ten Hag responded to the remarks of Van Nistelrooy: “There were many many good players in the World Cup. [Van Nistelrooy] can say that about many players.”

According to the Mirror, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Newcastle United are also in line to sign Gakpo. However, Man Utd has the upper hand to secure the signature of Cody with the club already in contact with PSV.

The 20-times Premier League champions will push the transfer of Gakpo in the coming days, as Ten Hag is desperate to bolster his attack midway through the second part of the 2022/23 campaign.
