Manchester United went head-to-head with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday. The Red Devils sealed a 2-1 win, courtesy to goals by Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
Old Trafford featured the unveiling of the latest signing – Carlo Casemiro. The Brazillian international appeared with a Manchester United jersey from the tunnel. This iconic introduction was similar to that of Raphael Verane at the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
The skipper Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo both started on the bench, and the latter was subbed on the 86th minute.
Manchester United started on the front-foot by applying high pressing approach which is fancied by the United boss – Erik ten Hag.
On the 16th minute, Sancho opened the scoresheet from an assist by Antony Elanga. United dominated until the 25th minute.
Elanga was substituted for Anthony Martial in the second-half. The latter provided Rashford with an assist and the Englishman scored a brace on the 53rd minute.
The visitors intensified pressure in the second-half. Mohammed Salah headed home following a rebound in the 80th minute.
Liverpool dominated majority of the second-half but the home-side was comfortable to sit deep until final whistle. The match finished with a 2-1 win by Manchester United.
This is the first win for the Red Devils since project restart. This also marks the first win for ten Hag as a manager for Manchester United in a competitive match.
The Reds will now face Southampton away at Saint Marry’s Stadium.
