The exclusion of Cristiano Ronaldo from the starting line-up has been subject of discussion. Manchester United could open the door for the Portuguese in the January transfer window.
Questions have been posed over the exclusion of Cristiano this campaign. More so after Manchester United succumbed to a 6-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
It is clear that the Portuguese international is not in the plans of Erik ten Hag. Accordingly, Manchester United could open the door for Ronaldo in the coming window in January.
However, the decision of the Dutchman has been largely criticized because Ronaldo is the only out-and-out center forward at the club. In the event that he leaves, this could shorten options upfront.
After the defeat to Manchester City, the boss provided reasons for the exclusion of Ronaldo. According to the Mirror, Ten Hag said:
“Out of respect for his big career”, but did not explain further.
The boss added that: “And the other thing was the advantage I could bring Martial, he needs the minutes but I don’t want to point it out like that”.
The all-time leading goal scorer is yet to start in a Premier League match. He has so far started in the UEFA Europa League encounter and scored a penalty.
The continued exclusion and lack of game time of the Portuguese could hamper his chances of featuring in the starting line-up for Portugal in the World Cup taking place in Qatar.
What is surprising is that Cristiano Ronaldo requested a trasnfer move away from Old Trafford before project restart. His wishes were not granted only for him to sit on the bench.
Manchester United will face Omonia the UEFA Europa League fixture. It is likely that he will be selected to start the match. However, it is interesting to see whether he will feature in the Premier League.
