The former Real Madrid pair – Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlo Casemiro started on the bench. Ronaldo’s exclusion was a surprise by virtue of the absence of Anthony Martial.

Ronaldo and Casemiro were introduced in the second-half on the 64th and 79th minute respectively.
Southampton dominated the entire second-half and came close to scoring on numerous occasions. Manchester United defense was compact enough to hold on until final whistle.
