Cody Gakpo has shown greenlight to leave PSV amid speculations of a switch to Manchester United. Erik ten Hag is eager to bring his compatriot to Old Trafford.

The transfer market is set to reopen in January as Manchester United keep an eye on Cody in the aftermath of the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The English giants have been chasing the Dutchman the whole summer, and only came close to finalizing a deal at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Amid the speculations, Gakpo broke silence on his desire to play for Manchester United but he remains to be focused for Netherlands in the World Cup.

The Mirror quoted the remarks of Gakpo: “That was a tough period. I learned from that. I’m going to do it differently. What comes, that comes. Suppose you want to go from RKC (Waalwijk) to PSV, but that club is not coming. Then you can panic.”

“I thought about Manchester United, but when that didn’t happen, I couldn’t remember. And I started to doubt. Leeds United did come. Should I go there? Now I wait everything.”

Cody Gakpo added: “I haven’t heard from Manchester United yet. When they come, I’ll think about it. I also seek the help of God in these decisions”.

“As footballers, we are in the spotlight. People watch us. I feel it a duty to do something about it. I try to convey the lessons I learn from my church as best as possible to others who need it.”

The Eredivise forward has taken the spotlight for both club and country, with twelve goals and twelve assists across all competitions. He is currently the top goal scorer in the Eredivise with nine goals.

Tyrell Malacia who is also representing Netherlands in the World Cup gave his verdict on Gakpo. According to Manchester Evening News, Malacia said: “He’s good enough for the top, there’s no doubt”.

“I have to be honest, I am not thinking about that now. I am focused on the tournament and want to keep performing well, to keep helping the team.”

“Hopefully, when we become world champions we can think about other things. I try to keep focused and the other players don’t really speak about that kind of thing.”

It is no doubt that Ten Hag will be keen to bring Gakpo to Manchester United as his team lacks quality in front of goals.
