Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay performed at his highest level since the arrival of Casemiro. He has been heavily criticized for “lack of quality” and often most the Scottish accounted for poor results.
In the past years the Scottish international had been deployed alongside Fred in the middle of the park. The traditional pairing famously known as “McFred” came under heavy criticism.
It was no doubt that Erik ten Hag had to strengthen the middle. The Dutchman responded with the signings of Christian Eriksen and Carlo Casemiro.
Accordingly, since Casemiro arrived from Real Madrid, McTominay has been desperate to keep his place in the starting line-up.
The 25-year-old played more forward passes than ever. Chiefly, he has protected the back-four with his crucial tackles.
McTominay was involved in the previous four Premier League victories. Once again the Manchester United academy graduate played a huge part in those wins.
Casemiro only came on as a substitute in the second-half. The Brazillian is still adapting to the philosophy of the boss. As expected, he will soon start football matches.
It is no doubt that Casemiro has more football techniques than McTominay and he will bring a different edge to the team.
Manchester United focus is on the UEFA Europa League. The English giants will face Sheriff on Thursday following a defeat to Real Sociedad.
It will be interesting to see whether ten Hag will start Casemiro ahead of McTominay.
