The all-time leading goal-scorer of the South African national team – Benni McCarthy joins Manchester United as a striker coach in the first team, United Radar understands.
The news broke the internet on Saturday evening when Bafana Bafana legend was announced as first-team coach for the English giants.
The Sun reported that Erik ten Hag was tempted to strengthen his coaching staff through the inclusion of the South African international.
McCarthy played in the English top-flight for Blackburn Rovers FC. The 44-year-old finished top two in the Premier League with 18 goals, and 24 in all competitions in 2006/07 season.
In the year 2017, McCarthy coached a South African team – Cape Town City. The former veteran striker led Amazulu FC to the CAF Champions League before resigning as the head-coach.
Erik Ten Hag praised Benni:
“There was still one place in our coaching staff that I wanted to fill”, the boss said. “Someone with a different voice and Benni is that one”.
“He has experience as a manager. He was a coach in the professional level and he was a former striker, a really successful striker as well.”
