Manchester United vs Tottenham fixture became one of the greatest performances of the season for the home side in the Premier League.
The Red Devils started on the front-foot and almost scored through Antony Santos within ten minutes. The Brazillian curled the ball from outside the box, but Hugo Lloris made a slight touch to keep the ball off-target.
Marcus Rashford came close to scoring when he linked up with Fred but the Englishman was denied by Tottenham goalkeeper.
Two minutes later Fred was fouled outside the box and Manchester United was awarded a free-kick. Bruno Fernandes stepped-up and curled it to the top-left corner only for Lloris to make another save.
Hugo made a third crucial save within 23rd minute when Diogo Dalot served Luke Shaw with a pass and the latter tried a volley. Half-time finished at 0-0 with the Red Devils coming on top. Manchester United vs Tottenham highlights are on the above video.
Fred scored within just a minute into the second-half to give Manchester United the lead. The Brazillian scored from outside the box through a deflection.
Four minutes later, Rashford came close to double the lead from a pass by Luke Shaw. Once again, the France goalkeeper came to the rescue to deny the Englishman a goal.
On the 69th minute, Bruno Fernandes curled the ball to the top-right corner to double the lead. This was a follow-up from a heavy touch by Fred.
Three minutes after the goal, Rashford missed another glorious opportunity when Lloris denied him a third goal. The Englishman could have scored a hatrick on the day.
Fernandes scored another goal from an assist from Marcus. The VAR canceled the goal on the basis of off-side.
Cristiano Ronaldo walked off to the dressing room in distress just six minutes before the match ended. The Portuguese is frustrated for lack of game time under Erik ten Hag.
Cristiano only started once in the Premier League in a fixture against Newcastle United. He only made most appearances in the UEFA Europa League fixtures.
Accordingly, the frustration is understandable given that his request to leave Old Trafford was blocked only for him to sit on the bench.
The match finished at 2-0 to Manchester United. The Red Devils registered 28 shots and 10 shots on target. Although Spurs had few moments but the home side was dominant.
On the other hand, Tottenham registered ten shots with only two on target. Antonio Conte’s men faced the highest shots (28) for the first time this season.
The Manchester United vs Tottenham fixture is no doubt the best performance for the Red Devils since the start of the season. Erik ten Hag will demand high level of consistency throughout the season.
The 20-time Premier League champions will now face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the weekend. The Blues are coming from a setback after drawing a goalless draw with Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.
