Manchester United faced Diego Simeone’s side in a pre-season friendly match. The Red Devils dominated the first 20 minutes with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford both coming close to scoring the opener.

The score line remained intact until half-time as both sides displayed a solid performance in defense. Our skipper Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof were in the heart of the defense, alongside Diogo Dalot and the latest signing Tyrell Malacia starting in left-back and right-back respectively.

The new signing Christian Eriksen was introduced in the second-half. The 30-year-old Danish midfielder served Harry Maguire with a quality cross from corner but the defender headed wide. Atletico Madrid opened the scoresheet through a brace from Joao Felix in the 86th minute. Fred was then sent-off in stoppage-time after receiving a second yellow card.

Atletico Madrid sealed a victory with one goal margin. United will look forward to bounce-back against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford.

Starting XI: De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia; Fred, McTominay, Fernandez; Elanga, Rashford, Martial.
