Another January arrival – Jack Butland is ineligible to feature at Selhurst Park by virtue that he is on loan from Crystal Palace. Therefore, he cannot play against the Eagles.

It is still unclear whether Marcus Rashford will be fit for the trip to Selhurst Park. The English international picked up a slight injury on his thigh, but soldiered throughout the match.

Anthony Martial was subbed off during half-time on derby day. The manager confirmed that he is a doubt for Palace clash. Manchester United website quoted Ten Hag’s remarks on Martial:

“I hope to avoid that he [Martial] was getting injured [by bringing him off],” uttered Ten Hag. “He was complaining, so that’s why he also didn’t train in the week and why he was a question mark.”

“He and we both decided that he had to start because his start would be so important in this game [against City] with his pace. Especially with pressing, he is really good and he is a really big element in our pressing, I needed that before half-time.”

The boss continued: “We decided, and he decided as well, he begged to start because I knew the start would be so important in this game.”

“Especially because he is really good with his pressing and he is a really big element in our pressing, and he did that really well before half-time.”

“But also you saw he was not capable to go 100 per cent and that’s what you need. Also, to avoid him getting injured, we took him off, and it also had an impact on our game, a negative impact after half-time.”

Donny Van de Beek is a long-term absentee following his knee surgery. The former Ajax playmaker sustained an injury following a horrible collision in the Carabao Cup tie.

The last time the two sides faced each other United sealed a 3-1 victory over the Eagles, during pre-season Club Friendly. Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were all on target.

In the previous four Premier League encounters, Crystal Palace won two times, whilst the Red Devils only won once.

Both sides shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park on the return fixture, during the 2020/21 campaign.

Ten Hag’s men will look forward to extend their winning streak, and leapfrog Manchester City to climb into second position on the league table.
