3. Early team news

Casemiro and Jesus - Arsenal vs Manchester United

Carlo Casemiro will not be available following his suspension at Selhurst Park. The Brazillian was shown a yellow card which ruled him out for Sunday clash at Arsenal.

In the absence of Casemiro, Erik Ten Hag is likely to deploy the traditional defensive midfield pair of Fred Rodriguez and Scott McTominay.

Rio Ferdinand suggested otherwise. He told the Mirror that Ten Hag will rather prefer Lisandro Martinez in the middle of the park, as opposed to Fred and McTominay:

“There’s no getting away from the fact that Casemiro will be a big miss against Arsenal this weekend,” Ferdinand told William Hill.

Scott McTominay

“He’s been brilliant since he’s come in, but United did beat Arsenal without him earlier in the season, so it’s not the end of the world.”

“With him out, I’d imagine Erik ten Hag will shuffle the pack with Luke Shaw back at centre back, [Tyrell] Malacia at left back and [Lisandro] Martinez into central midfield.”

“You’d think that is the way he’ll go, and in all honesty, I’d be pretty shocked if Ten Hag went with Fred and Scott McTominay in midfield as that doesn’t seem to work.”

Antony Santos against Arsenal

Diogo Dalot and Anthony Martial have been ruled out with injuries. The latter only played first-half in the Manchester derby, and he was subbed off for Antony Santos at half-time.

Donny Van de Beek remains a long-term absentee following his knee injury during the Carabao Cup tie against Charlton.

Manchester Evening News provided a list of the confirmed squad for Arsenal trip as follows: Heaton, Butland, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Malacia, McTominay, Mainoo, Fred, Eriksen, Fernandes, Elanga, Antony, Pellistri, Garnacho, Rashford, Weghorst.

4. Head-to-head

The last time the two sides faced each other, Manchester United put the Gunners to the sword during 3-1 thumping at Old Trafford, as previously reported by United Radar.

Antony Santos scored on debute, whilst Marcus Rashford striked double past Arsenal. United remains the only side to beat the Gunners this season.

History suggests that the Red Devils have had a tough time away at the Emirates Stadium. United last won in London back in 2017 during the era of Jose Mourinho.

Both sides played a total of 60 matches. Manchester United won 27, whilst Arsenal has only 17 victories. In addition, they have 16 draws between them.

United will look forward to make a double over the Gunners, and potentially close the gap from the top to challenge for the Premier League title.
