3. Chelsea vs Manchester United team news
Manchester United confirmed in their official website that Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature at Stamford Bridge. The Portuguese has been punished following his conduct in the fixture against Spurs.
Cristiano was seen storming into the tunnel in the 89th minute. Reports suggest that the 37-year-old immediately left Old Trafford that evening.
The frustration on the part of Ronaldo is largely caused by the fact that he has often started on the bench. Accordingly, ten Hag has opted to start the young players amid his rebuild project.
According to Daily Mail, the boss spoke on the punishment of Ronaldo: “I am the manager, I am responsible for top spot culture here and I have to set standards and values and I have to control them.”
“In the team, we have values and standards and I have to control that. After Vallecano, I told him it was unacceptable but not him everyone, this is the second time, there are consequences.”
“We miss him tomorrow, it’s a miss for the squad but it’s important for the attitude and mentality of the group and now we have to focus on Chelsea as that is important.”
“I think it will have a (time for) reflection for him, but also for everyone else, I sent a warning at the start of the season. Next time there have to be consequences.”
“Otherwise when you are living together when you are playing together, football is a team sport and you have to fulfil certain standards. And I have to control it”.
Harry Maguire and Brandon Williams are back to training. The boss confirmed that Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back on the pitch, while Anthony Martial is still sidelined.
“Martial? He was on the [training] pitch, but he’s not available tomorrow”. Ten Hag added that: “Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back on the pitch, so that’s good news, because we need everyone.”
“We have so may games to cover, so we need a big squad, you need that you can pick players, that you have choice. So I’m happy with that process.”
